Theoretical Articles
This section is particularly interested in articles that explain the coherence and dissonance between our disciplinary or teaching theories and biblical perspectives (e.g., to what extent do the views of our discipline coincide with or have friction with our biblical thinking?). Theoretical articles may question existing frameworks, suggest new theories, compare theoretical lenses, etc.
Theoretical articles examine the theoretical or philosophical foundations of academic disciplines in light of Christian thinking or biblical frames. They employ an analytical mindset in the review of specific existing disciplinary theoretical frameworks, avoiding generalized descriptions of culture or disciplinary approaches. Additionally, they provide robust biblically framed theoretical or philosophical positions directly applicable to a specific academic discipline.
Although theoretical in nature, articles in this section must engage directly with contemporary academic and scholarly conversations via literature review and appropriate citations of existing theories. Articles in this section do not report results from research studies testing a hypothesis of theoretical frameworks.
Submissions for theoretical papers should be between 2,000 and 5,000 words.
Abstracts are required and are limited to 250 words.
Research Articles
Research articles are written documents that showcase the outcomes of original research efforts that reference relevant literature, contribute new findings or replicate previously-reported findings, employing a systematic and transparent research design. They employ various research methodologies, such as quantitative, qualitative, or a combination of both, to explore and assess a specific phenomenon or test a hypothesis. Research articles adhere to a standardized structure and typically encompass sections such as Abstract, Introduction, Literature Review, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and References.
The section welcomes a diverse range of topics. They encompass investigations into teaching practices, including course design, implementation strategies, perceptions of faculty and students, and course or program outcomes. They also include analyses of scholarly productivity in faith-based settings, involving scoping reviews related to faith integration, publication interests, and faculty perspectives. Additionally, they feature explorations of the experiences and responsibilities of faculty members within faith-based institutions.
Submissions for this section should be between 2,000 and 6,000 words.
Abstracts are required and are limited to 250 words.
Practical Application Articles
Practical Papers present detailed accounts of innovations developed and implemented at the school, department, program, or classroom level. These papers focus on practices that are grounded in theory and relevant literature, applied in higher education, and ready for others to use or adapt in their own contexts.
Each contribution should:
-
Describe the innovation clearly and fully, with enough detail to guide implementation elsewhere.
-
Connect the practice to relevant research, showing its grounding in existing knowledge.
-
Demonstrate the robustness of the approach, highlighting features that make it durable and transferable.
The purpose of this section is to advance practice by sharing field-tested models that strengthen the integration of faith and academic life.
Submissions for practical papers should be between 2,000 and 5,000 words.
Abstracts are required and are limited to 250 words.
Book Reviews
Submissions that review books published in the last five years are accepted for consideration. Book reviews will be 300 to 1,000 words to be considered for publication and should consider the how the material from the book applies to the work of a higher education professional at a faith-based institution.
Abstracts are not required for book reviews.
Faith Integration in the Academy Conference
Proposals submitted in this section are for presentations at the Faith Integration in the Academy Conference. Session proposals will be peer-reviewed.
