Abstract

This project features American Sign Language in a long-exposure photographic work highlighting individual signs' movements. Two images show the individual signs for Jesus and Spirit, while the third work is a collection of photos stitched together to form all the signs used to translate Philippians 4:8. This project was made with compassion for and the understanding that the Deaf community is a largely unreached people group due to a lack of language access. There is not enough access to the bible and Christianity as a whole in a language they can understand. God gave me these gifts and this knowledge. In obedience, I work to find ways to share the good news with them. In this project, I explored the capabilities of this photographic technique in making art that could significantly impact deaf individuals who do not know the Word.
